6. What is the purpose and how does the legislatively directed spending item provide a public benefit that is an appropriate use of taxpayer money?
The U.S. National Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame and Museum, Inc. Capital Preservation and Modernization Project seeks federal support for a $5 million, one-time capital stabilization initiative to address critical structural, mechanical, environmental, accessibility, and life-safety deficiencies identified in the 2024 federally supported Collections Assessment for Preservation conducted by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The request focuses exclusively on infrastructure improvements necessary to protect the museum building and its 18,000+ nationally significant artifacts, including climate control modernization, structural stabilization, infrastructure replacement, ADA compliance, and fire and security system upgrades. This project is preservation-driven and shovel-ready, grounded in documented third-party assessment findings. We would like to request $1 million towards clearly defined capital categories while demonstrating institutional commitment and readiness to complete the full project scope.
